BLUE Diamond Order Code is HERE!

Huzzah! We have the order code for BLUE:

MAY083778

So what does that mean to you? Short answer: to make sure you get your hands on BLUE, pre-order the book from your local comics shop sometime this month. Just give them the code MAY083778 and you're good to get one when it's released in July.

Longer answer: Diamond Distributors are the folks that get the comics in the comics shops. Retailers look through Diamond's catalog, PREVIEWS, every month to decide what to order. PREVIEWS is huge, they have a ton to choose from, and aren't able to return books that don't sell. This means that a lot of indy books get passed over at order time. Pre-ordering the book will guarantee you get a copy (huzzah for you), tells retailers there's interest in/demand for the book (huzzah for me), and is another sale (huzzah for retailers).

In closing: pre-ordering is good, all around. :)

New York Comic-Con!

Off to the New York Comic-Con this weekend, complete with BLUE postcards designed and made by Leland. I don't have an official table, but I'll most likely be hanging with the Weird Tales peeps, wherever they are.

My one panel is on Friday at 4:

Friday
4:00 PM- 5:00 PM
1E10-1E11
WEIRD TALES - 85 Years, 85 Storytellers

Celebrating 85 years in print, Weird Tales has enjoyed a devoted cult following as the very first magazine of gothic and bizarre dark fantasy. Weird Tales is well known for launching the careers of great authors like Ray Bradbury and H.P. Lovecraft; even Stephen King has called the magazine a major inspiration. Come join the dynamic new creative team as they discuss the 85 Weirdest talents of the past 85 years.

After that, I'll probably sneak into the "Women In Comics" panel because Gail will be there. Squee!

Anyway, if you're around and you see me, please be sure to say hello! Do not be afraid to shake me outta my daze if need be...

The cover

...And here it is. The final cover will be either this or something very similar to this.

Squee!

"Squee" is the sound I make whenever Sami sends me something new. Which he did today, of course. The cover! (No, the cover in PREVIEWS is not the real cover.)

Alas, it's not quite ready for prime time. But soon.

Blue drawing

Okay. Here we go; my first post to our new great Blue blog!
Here we have some unfinished drawings that will eventually end up to the pages of Blue.
I`ll try to drop a drawing here every now and then. Some new finished pages and stuff like that. So keep checking.

Other projects

Just got back from Nashville last night - whew!

Still getting a handle on all I need to catch up on. In the meantime, I thought I'd mention another one of my projects: Comic Book Tattoo!

Here's a bit from the latest write-up from CBR, in which songs and creators are finally revealed. Though Rantz goes beyond that to reveal quite a bit about my story, "Here. In My Head" with Carla Speed McNeil:

Among those stories is “Here In My Head” by Elizabeth Genco and Carla Speed McNeil (“Finder”), based on the B-side of “Winter” (UK release), circa 1992. Hoseley interprets the song as a reflection on a relationship that never seems to start or end. “[It’s about] wanting someone, even though you know they want another person and that the things they say are just complete BS,” he said. “From that, [Genco and McNeil] end up creating this haunting, sexy, and incredibly touching tale of a girl on the verge of womanhood, who’s pinned under the weight of the upcoming choice she has to make on whether she is going to spend the rest of her life as a human, or as a bird. A transformative choice that has to be made on her seventeenth birthday, as is her familial legacy. A choice made all the harder by her love/lust for a boy who wants a different girl and who sees her as just a friend.”

There is some amazing art in that article, including a page from Ted McKeever that will completely knock you down, so be sure to check it out.

Sami has another big project in the works as well, but I'm not allowed to mention it yet. :)

And we're off! And I'm off!

I'll be out of the office 'til April 6th. In fact, I'm kind of panicking as a cab is due here in an hour. But there will be much more here after I return (and I'll gussy up the blog a bit as well).

In the meantime, here's some BLUE-in-progress that Sami posted on his blog back in February.

While you're there, stick around and peruse - Sami has a lot of amazing artwork up there from his other projects.

Meanwhile, I can always be found online here.

BLUE: first look

To get things rolling, here are five pages for you to check out (click on the thumbnail to see them bigger):

BLUE from Desperado Publishing

Welcome! I've created this blog to keep you updated on BLUE, our forthcoming graphic novel from Desperado.

BLUE is about a girl whose ex-turned-indie-rock-god comes back and is not as he seems. It's a bit of a sendup of Bluebeard, a old school fairy tale.

Here's a picture of the cover that'll be in PREVIEWS in May (this is NOT the final cover):

Here's the solicitation copy:

"A fresh, fantastic take on the bloodiest of classic fairy tales. When Blue's ex-boyfriend appears on her doorstep, he says he wants to make things right. His true intentions are far more sinister. Blue's shape-shifting powers can help her outrun him, but to survive, she must face him as herself."

With any luck, I'll be able to give Sami posting access as well. :)
